Kenneth’s Popularity Soars after The Hippocratic Crush- Eileen Cha Interview

March 25, 2012 at 5:18 pm (interviews, the hippocratic crush)

Cute interview, glad his popularity is being acknowledged!

Notes of interest:

  • Tavia has lost all “fantasies” for Kenneth cuz he tells everyone they’re beautiful (Tav: “I know I’m beautiful, shut up!”) Haha, that is so cute. He says he flirts with Tavia, Sharon and Selena (his old time partners)
  • Asked whether he tells Mandy she’s pretty, he says yes, because she’s rather pretty and that Mandy is very fresh and tomboyish.
  • Kenneth gets along with Nathan and Gigi – he praises Nathan as being quick-witted and bonds over being part of TVB Acting Class.
  • Tavia couldn’t remember her tumor name, but Kenneth does lol.
  • Nancy guest stars for 6 sec in THC for free – Not only Nancy came to visit on set; lots of ppl came to visit to see the OR due to the technology. He’s known the director since TVB Acting Class and had done a guest star role in “The Family Link” for a few sec as a lawyer (MK Sun) under this director too.
  • Did you date Nancy? Yes but we broke up. She doesn’t have Princess Disease; Kenneth says Eileen knows her too and that she knows she doesn’t have those issues; personalities incompatibilities was the reason for the break up. They are still friends – they broke up peacefully. Kenneth gentlemanly defends Nancy (aw…), but as I mentioned before, this is the reason girls might be concerned to date him: if anything goes wrong in a relationship w/ MM, it’s always gonna be assumed there’s something wrong with the girl lol.
  • Kenneth said when he was young, if a girl smiled at him, he’ll think they liked him so now he is slow in these things
  • No girl has every took initiative to tell him she liked him and he, himself, will take initiative in pursuing girls (he’s failed before lol); he’s never had two girls to choose from
  • Internet guy fans cheer on Kenneth cuz he admits he watches online porn. He feels that its normal and does not want to “pretend” to be innocent. (“I cannot say that because of the fans, I’m keeping my innocence aka not dating”) haha. love Kenneth. He doesn’t like to pretend.
  • Kenneth wants to film in Mainland despite offers. Scheduling conflicts. Won’t happen this year because after Prominent Family (no script, only written on the spot – wow) will be Triumphs In the Skies II.
  • Kenneth’s dubbed as Hot Property #2, Moses being the first. Kenneth comments he’s not and people that are single like Raymond are the Hot Properties. I still don’t get why Kenneth isn’t above Moses haha, I would totally take MaMing over him any day lol!
  • Kenneth’s hobby of collecting Donald Duck mentioned again lol. He has over 1000 even though some have already been donated. This hobby started when he was 10 yo. He likes that Donald Duck has a cute big butt (OMG kenneth…) and his personality (greedy, perverted, angry) – he’s very human unlike Mickey Mouse who is too perfect.
  • She doesn’t think he’ll ever be irritated, but Kenneth says he will, especially when things are annoying. He’ll not talk if he’s angry. He’s waited for girls in restaurant before (1 or so hours) but she didn’t come. He isn’t mad about it and he didn’t ask why.
  • He says Daisy is very girly and he likes long eyelashes
  • He used to like long legs and pretty girls but now he’s less about looks. He’s waiting for ppl to intro him to girls outside the entertainment industry but nothing came out of it; when they say there’s someone, the girl would start dating someone else by the next week or they won’t have pictures lol. Mandy & Selena are all talk
  • He never sensed Tavia & Him were dating, but they did all talk about going BBQing but Him never called him lol.
  • Kenneth felt lost at a point (cuz he doesn’t make enough money); someone recommended an Indian flick to him and inspired him
  • He loved acting at a young age but he got to a point where he realized liking it isn’t enough, money is necessary to raise a family too.
  • After the movie, he resumed mindset to enjoying his job; he’s loves his job
  • Yat Kin Tau role got him more projects/events; thanks his AA who helps him arrange it
  • He calls his 2nd sister’s little boys “little demons”

After 4 epis, the show and Kenneth were already very popular!

Have you met any co-stars that do not practice? He diplomatically says that there person is probably wants to use “the most fresh feeling to ignite something new.” lol ah Kenneth, so good at not offending others.

He said the old Kenneth would practice everything to the T and that he was very “stubborn.” He feels like there needs to be a balance now.

I love how Kenneth, when asked if he was popular due to the doctor’s role, he went on to say Doctors have a tough job and that there aren’t enough in the ER.

Black-White Musical Notes Practice A Song: Kenneth Ma & Kate Tsui

March 12, 2009 at 2:13 am (interviews, kate tsui)

If you like Kenneth Ma, then you must know who Kate Tsui is, and vice versa if you like to watch Kate Tsui’s dramas, you must know who Kenneth Ma is.  By the sound of it, these two people are tied together tightly, but reality tells us that this isn’t really the case as it seems to be on TV.  Kenneth and Kate are natural individuals, one is a male that would be very happy if he is able to own a 2,000 square feet home in Hong Kong, the other, a girl who wishes to succeed in her career, become famous and then move to a small town in England to escape from the world. They’re just like black white musical notes, the two sides of a mirror, day and night, one walks to the right and the other walks to the left.

The Commoner?
The sport that Kenneth loves is also the same sport that all males of Hong Kong love playing/watching. Whenever soccer season comes, his only entertainment/activity is staying at home watching soccer games. At this point, no matter how important the situation may be, it’s best not to go and disturb him, because watching the games is much more important. He also enjoys playing the sport, and when he’s on the field he takes charge, and not only that, he also feels “high” (natural high).  No matter how shy and boring he may be at other times, when he’s on the field playing soccer, you’ll get to see the active/playful side of him, and when he gets too hot he’ll even take off his soccer shorts & you can then see his “school kid style” underwear.  Just recently, he was unfortunate enough that some magazine published a picture of him while he was taking off his pants (article pix here: 1, 2) although it was only a few seconds’ time. At the same time this proves that Kenneth is really a great and traditional good guy, even his underwear is so traditional making him very cute.
Passive type?
During the time period when Kenneth was still in school, there was a long period of time in which his acne/pimple caused him a lot of distress. Although Kenneth was already fairly tall then, when he spoke with others he didn’t dare look at the other person in the eyes. He was afraid that he might see a not-very-good expression on the other person’s face.  He would also never voluntarily say hi to others.  During this period of feeling inferior among others, he developed the habit of not talking with others, hence while filming, you’ll see a group of people playing together, but you’ll always see Kenneth sitting by himself as though he’s deep in thought. But he might not be really thinking about anything, he just doesn’t want to be talking with people whom he does not really know.  When he sees the camera from the press, his first reaction would be a response of his “frozen-smile” or he’ll walk away to avoid the camera. Only until Benz Hui spoke with Kenneth, was he enlightened. Benz told Kenneth that even if you don’t like to goof around, you’ve still have to learn how to face the camera and take advantage of opportunities and go after them, if not, you won’t seem like a person who belongs to this industry, and in that case you should probably quit.  Only after this conversation did Kenneth slowly start to learn to be more assertive on carrying out a conversation. He’ll try to broaden conversation topics, and would also try to elaborate on his answers and comments so that he would be speaking more.
When Kate is filming with Kenneth, most of the time she would be the one that goes and looks for people to talk to.  There’s nothing bad about that. She’s even already at the stage where she said she’s going to introduce girls to Kenneth! However, Kenneth, who is a little slow catching on still thinks that the two of them don’t have much to talk about (Yet, Kate is already thinking of finding girls for him).
Career type?
Kenneth is a super great boyfriend, if that isn’t the case then during the time that Kenneth went to Hunan for a dance competition (Strictly Come Dancing II), Nancy Wu and Myolie Wu wouldn’t have mentioned Kenneth when they were asked who would be their ideal type of guy. Kenneth’s idol is Benz. For his career he only wants to be “the second” , the second male leading role.  That way, he can film, make money, yet he doesn’t have to take on the pressure, and then maybe after many years of filming he will have enough money to buy a car and a house and live together with his family, that’s all he wants.  Kenneth is the type that would be living in a high class hotel in Changsha and not give his laundry to the laundry service. Instead, he would go out and buy his own laundry detergent, and when he checks out of the room he would kindly ask the hotel staff “Can you safe-keep the detergent for me, I will need to use it the next time I come.” We’re talking about safekeeping a box of detergent!!!  Hence sometimes he would just “admit to life” (accept fate) and say “Girls like boys that are a bit “bad boy”, but that’s not me.” If you were to date him, he will not make any plans; the activities may be the same for every date, but above all, he would have to watch his soccer games!  There may not be a candlelight dinner, after dinner they may go on a walk, and if there’s nothing else to do after the walk and  they don’t know where to go, Kenneth will for sure suggest to the girl “Let’s go home and watch DVDs.”
Kenneth knows that it’s going to be a must that he and Kate will get involved with rumors of them dating, but he thinks that its going to be really funny when it does happen, because he understands that Kate is a work-alcoholic.  Kenneth’s ideal type of girl is a girl that would be willing to devote a lot to her boyfriend. But Kenneth sees that a lot of times Kate would go crazy in stress for her job, sometimes he would advise her to relax a bit.

Annoucement: I won the first ever KTEF Contest (Kate Tsui English Forum)- My Favorite Kate Series of 2008
So please visit: It’s an awesome Kate English fansite. I won two photos of Kate and they’re both autographed! I would share them here, but my scanner has gone nuts! Thanks Mich & KTEF!

Comments: Haha. Kenneth is just too cute and down to earth! I can’t believe the whole detergent thing…what is that about?! Does he not want other ppl to do his laundry…that is so strange. He can’t take the detergent w/ him? haha. silly boy. Now I know why Kenneth tries to be bad and has developed a glib tongue/sweet mouth, becuz he’s a good boy and he thinks girls like bad boys! aww…Kenneth….if she’s the right one, she’ll love your goodness! Haha. When did Myolie & Nancy mention him as their ideal bf? So many ppl love his traits, but its taking him forever to find the one…I wonder if he’s just picky! Yeah, I kinda always thought Kate and him were too different to be a real life couple. I sense that Kenneth definitely knows she’s not his type, but Kate’s a girl…so girls are less rational…haha..she may get sucked in by his wonderful traits! Haha…now even Kate’s introducing girls to him?! What is this? First there’s Myolie, Sharon, Kingdom, and now Kate! Haha..everyone tries so hard to “sell” him…I mean he’s so wonderful u’d think the selling would do itself! 🙂
I kinda like the whole boring thing about him…since I’m boring myself…I’m sure he’ll find the right girl who’ll love going home and watching DVDs w/ him and watching soccer games w/ him!
OT: Gillian’s made her comeback! I’m soooo…happy for her! Hope Twins return soon. Love her new “Tough jeans” photoshoot!

Old Article (’05): Kenneth Ma Never Had Rumors, Only Wants to Get Married

February 23, 2009 at 5:18 pm (bernice liu, interviews)

TVB’s newly promoted actor, Kenneth Ma, has been in the entertainment industry for 5 years. He has long regarded himself no longer a “newbie.” So when TVB cast him in “Lost In The Chamber of Love,” he did not self-congratulate himself nor did he feel that he has advanced to the position of leading male actor. But now since he has more acting opportunities, Kenneth is not shy to admit that he hopes to earn more money in the future….

He Doesn’t Care About Fame, Only What He Actually Earns

Although in “Lost In The Chamber of Love,” Kenneth shares the lead with Ron Ng, Kenneth’s mentality has not changed from before. He does not feel that his status has moved up. In reality, Kenneth does not want to be a star, but hopes to be an unknown rich man. Kenneth says, “When I go out on the streets now, I don’t feel that more people recognize me; my lifestyle has not changed much from before. But now, I just want to earn more money. If fame and money were separate, I would chose to be an unkown rich man. To have wealth and still have your own freedom, that would be the best combination.” Kenneth mentioned that since he is now 31 years old, and his parents have already retired, he hopes to be able to take care of his parents better financially.

Since graduating from TVB acting class 5 years ago, Kenneth now has more acting opportunities. He says that things luckily worked out: “Many people from the same acting class as me no longer have any performance opportunities. As for me, I am lucky enough to combine my interests in acting as a career, it is very fortunate. I will cherish this opportunity and will spend 10 years in the entertainment industry to advance my opportunties. Hopefully I will do even better. Actually, my biggest interest is soccer. Too bad Hong Kong doesn’t have an outstanding soccer team. If I were born in England, then without doubt, I would join their soccer team!”

No Rumors, Just Want to Get Married

When working with so many veteran actors, Kenneth doesn’t consider himself a leading actor yet: “Once a veteran told me, if anyone asks you, you have to have to say you are already a leading man. But I couldn’t say that, it’s not a question of my confidence. But I really don’t feel that my experience is strong enough yet. After filming “Scavenger’s Paradise,” I learned how to really read a script. In the past, I thought that if I prepared by reading the script right before we shot it, it would be adequate. But Roger Kwok taught me that’s not the case; you must read the whole script for the whole drama when you first get a copy of the script. Only this way, will I be fully prepared to act well. In my mind, actors like Roger Kwok, Hui Siu Hung, and Power Chan, are the real actors. If I had to tell someone that I am a leading actor, I would feel embarrassed. That’s why I am not concerned about fame and how many people know my name; I am more focused on my actual ability. In this field, I admire Hui Siu Hung. He is not an idol and does not self-promote himself, but he is still highly sought after as an actor!”

Besides recognizing his goals in the entertainment industry clearly, Kenneth nearly has had zero rumors. In contrast, Ron Ng has been plagued by recent rumors. In response, Kenneth said “In the past I have liked someone in the industry as well. But shooting a series is only for a very short length in time. I never believed in love at first sight. I will only like a girl and pursue her after knowing her for an extended period of time. But working in this industry is always so busy, after filming one series, then I have to film for the next drama. I had wanted to ask her out on a date, but I really didn’t have time due to my workload. As I am no longer young, if I were to be in a relationship, I would not play around, but I would wish to get married.”

More About Kenneth Ma

Kenneth Ma is a distinct creature in the entertainment industry. He doesn’t like self-promotion. In the past when trying to arrange an interview with him, he turned it down. Many actors hope to act in heavy roles, but Kenneth afraid he can’t handle them, would prefer to start with minor roles instead, to build up his experience. Many artists go hang out and socialize after work, but he would prefer to go home after work or watch a ball (sports) game. Men in their 30’s should not be interested in comics/ cartons, but Kenneth still likes Donald Duck. Having known him for a year, my opinion is still the same, he is not the sharpest person, is he suitable for working in the entertainment industry? Since working for TVB 5 years ago to having increased exposure today, the answer is yes! It’s because he understands his position.

Only TVB Accepted Me

5 years ago, Kenneth returned to Hong Kong after graduating from British Columbia with a degree in engineering. He sent out several covers letters to find a job, but only TVB acting class responded to his inquiries. When I was in school, I already liked to act in dramas. At that time, I decided to take a risk, but after entering TVB, I realized that surviving in the entertainment industry is not easy.

“At that time, I entered the industry based purely on interest. However after working for awhile, I realized that acting on tv versus my college experience was very different. Also I needed a bit more luck to succeed in the entertainment industry. After graduating from TVB acting class, I started out acting in very minor extra roles. But I was not discouraged since at the time, I was nervous having to speak 1-2 lines of dialogue already. If I were given larger roles, I would not have been able to handle them well. On the other hand, by starting out with minor roles, I was slowly able to build up my abilities and experience. I really never thought of discontinuing my acting career. The job market is still tough, now I have a job that pays enough to cover my expenses, why shouldn’t I continue acting?”

For 3 years, Kenneth was content playing small roles. When he received the offer to act in “Triumph In the Skies,” he was not nervous at all since the role was not a big one. However when he received the script for “Driving Power,” and his character part was that of a con-artist, he was a little anxious.

“When I heard that my other co-stars would include Adam Cheng, Cecilia Yip, and Lai Yiu Cheurng, who are all accomplished actors, I was a little worried. I was afraid my acting ability would not match to those of the veterans. However I am lucky that I got a chance to work with Lai Yiu Cherng; we had a lot of scenes together. He is a very straight-forward guy. He would often given me suggestions on how to act out a scene best. Working with him is definitely without pressure, and at the same time I learned a lot as well.”

No Newsworthy Content

Besides Lai Yiu Cherng, Kenneth also said that there were many other veterans that he gain a lot from as well: Law Lan, Law Koon Lan, Tse Kwan Ho, Hui Siu Hung, and Roger Kwok. He learned a lot especially from Hui Siu Hung and Roger, once would tell him straight out his mistakes, while the other would look after him.
“Benz Gor (Hui Siu Hung) would lecture me very sternly. ‘Do you know what you are doing?’ He would then point out my mistakes. As for Roger, he would give suggestions to Myolie and I on how to act out a scene more naturally. When Roger receives the script for a new series, he would read through the whole thing immediately. Roger would take mental note of all the important elements in the script. Roger is a team player and watches out for other people. Also I learned how to read a script properly from working with Roger.”

“After ‘Driving Power’ was released in HK, I didn’t feel that more people recognized me. I don’t know why there were reporters who were interested in interviewing me. I thought they should interview more famous actors, I didn’t feel that news about me would help the magazine’s sales volume.” When I heard Kenneth say that, I guess it was somewhat true. You can say he has business acumen, or you can say he was just being realistic about himself. Recalling an incident earlier in the year, when the reporter interviewed an elderly actor at Huang Mountain, the actor said at the end of the interview: “I guess you guys didn’t care who you were interviewing, as long as the requirements were satisfied.” The reporter was upset since that was not the magazine’s intention. After relaying the story to Kenneth, he laughed “I had the same mentality at the time [in turning down interviews].”

Kenneth does not know how to play the games in the entertainment industry. For example, he is afraid to chat with reporters he does not know very well. “When I see some reporters I don’t know very well, and they are acting like they’ve known me for years, asking me out to dinner and interviews, it’s a very odd feeling.”

He’s Not Interested In Self-Creating News

Example #2: Some reporters asked him to self-create some news, but Kenneth turned them down. “In the past, a reporter had called me. He asked me who was my current female co-start. He told me to ask her out to dinner so that the report could take secret pictures of us together. I was upset and turned him down because I am not someone to self-fabricate news about myself. Also another reporter asked me if I did not get along with a certain actor/actress. Although we had some minor disagreements, but it really was not to that degree worth mentioning to the reporter. I do not like fabricated news. If it is the truth, than I don’t mind it being published.”

Example #3: Also another time, there were reporters who wanted to interview Kenneth (since one of his dramas was airing at the time). However Kenneth was busy filming another series and he had to work past midnight hours most of the time. So Kenneth told the reporter that he’ll do the interview after he finishes filming for his current series. But after the filming wrapped up, the drama that was airing on tv also finished, so there was no need to interview him anymore. As a result, another opportunity to appear in the media news vanished. Kenneth didn’t feel that it was a loss however: “I only had 4 hours of sleep at the time, if I sacrificed any more time to do an interview, it would affect my health. I want to focus on acting, anything that affects my acting and performance I will not do. However if I have time, then of course I don’t mind doing interviews.”

Maybe Kenneth doesn’t under that when he has time for interviews, the opportunity may not be there anymore. Kenneth laughed and said that although he has entered the entertainment industry for 5 years, his personality does not fit the industry. One veteran had told him before: “Your personality can’t be like that! Other people always appear in the news, what about you? (Did they point out how you can increase your exposure in the media?) No they didn’t. But after awhile, I got to know some reporters better. After our interview, I looked back at what they wrote and they did report everything I said accurately. So after awhile, I had more trust in them.”

Kenneth is open to admit that it takes him awhile to warm up to people. “I personally feel that when I don’t know someone well, I have nothing to say to them at first. I need more time to know someone better…but I do know the cinematographer, make-up and hair stylists people quite well. Alot of people think I am very shy, but after knowing me better, they find out that’s not the case.”

Sometimes other artists say that Kenneth is quite “soft,” easygoing, and gives in to other people easily. Kenneth shakes his head, “it depends on what people want me to do. If it is not a major thing, I usually say yes. To a certain degree, I usually am ok, however if I really don’t like it, I won’t. For example like playing basketball, going to bar, I won’t. For one, I have no interest in basketball, and for the other, I really don’t like to drink. Other people may keep drinking, but I’ll settle for lemon tea. At the end of the night, I’ll pay my share. Unless it is someone’s birthday, then I’ll pay for it.”

Besides working, Kenneth is only interested in soccer or staying at home. Like today when we finished the interview, he said he had to return home. “Since I was young, I have enjoyed my time spent at home. It’s the most relaxing and I like being with my family. I am very close with my mother. People may ask, why do you always go out with your mother, I just think why would that not be normal? Besides that, I am very close with my father and my two older sisters as well.”

Although Kenneth has a close family where everyone gets along with each other, he said that his childhood was not always easy: “Since our family immigrated to Canada, Dad has been traveling back and forth between Canada and Hong Kong. My two sisters were focused on their studies, so I am usually the only one left at home with Mom. Since then, I have always been close to Mom and felt a need to protect her. I think that’s why I’ve always been on the quiet side as well. However after joining TVB, and interacting with more and more people, I have slowly started to change as well.”

Able to Lose

In the past, Kenneth did not have any specific goals. However since he likes to act, he hopes that people will think of him as an actor who acts well. At the same time, he hopes he is able to earn more money to provide for his family. “I am no longer young, I have to take on the responsibility for the family. I hope that I have more different performing opportunities. I want other people to think that Kenneth Ma can act, that I am serious about acting. I don’t mind playing villian roles either, as I am not aiming to be an idol. When I first entered TVB 5 years ago, I did not have anything. During this time, I have been earning enough to cover my needs. However if I lost everything now, I am not afraid of starting over again.”

Kenneth admits that his interests have not changed over the years. Since third grade, he has liked soccer and today he is still a big fan. Also liking Donald Duck, etc, these things will not change. Maybe these things may change? Kenneth says that he probably won’t….

(this one may be a repost…but oh well..)

Comments: Randomly sticking in recent pix into an old article haha. A very good read! So it takes Kenneth sometime to warm up…6 yrs? hm..haha. jkjk.

As a shameless shipper of BK, I would like to note:

The reporter asked if she has considered to become a mother? [Bernice] immediately said “I want to.” (Do you have plans?) “Many people want to have children but may not be able to. I would also like to get married soon and have kids. But I still don’t have a boyfriend that is why I can’t have children. In the past I wanted to be a 24 hour mother, now I don’t know about that. But I am ready. I am mature and it’s a suitable time.”

Aw…Bernice & Kenneth have similar goals in a way! I always had a feeling that she would be a “family” woman, but I had my doubts. I guess this supports it! They would be great for each other….both love kids!

Radio Interview w/ Sharon Chan & Old TVBpeople Clip

November 12, 2008 at 3:48 am (interviews, sharon chan)

Click the link:

This interview was really cute. Sharon was a guest host for the show and had previously invited her “family” onto the show including younger sister Rain Li, Older Sis Christine Ng, and Big Bro Joel Chan. So the host asked her who the tall handsome guy this time was and Sharon said that he isn’t her brother/sister. The host then asked if he’s her lover then, and she said no, that he was her good friend Kenneth.

They welcome him onto the show and the hosts pokes fun at him, saying that she heard that he doesn’t talk much, that he’s really introverted. And he replied that he is w/ a chuckle and also said he doesn’t know what to say (he’s so cute!)

The host asked Sharon if Kenneth’s really that shy and she said he is, but not with her (aw…). Kenneth was asked whether he has very few ‘female friends’ and he said Yes. (Wow, I always thought Kenneth had a lot of female friends, but turns out he has more guys friends. I guess Kenneth’s just one of those ppl with lots of friends, but only a few close friends..and the really close ones just happen to be guys. It just so happens that his female friends like Nancy, Myolie, and Selena talk more about him as opposed to the guys)

Haha, the host even mentioned that his voice is very… …however you say it. And Sharon chimes in to say he sings very well.

They talk about how they met, and Sharon even said at first Kenneth didn’t really speak to her and she had to initiate convo during the filming of Dreams of Colours. (Kenneth said that they were not close when he “guest starred as Sharon’s bf in Survivor’s Law & Summer Heat etc….he later corrected himself saying that it wasn’t guest-starring since he was an extra back then – he’s so humble) Sharon said that Kenneth took care of her during DOC and though he didn’t teach her stuff, he gave her advice and they talked alot.

The host laughed at Kenneth for being “cool” for not talking to Sharon and he said he wasn’t that he just didn’t know what to say. Sharon went into saying that it’s hard to find friends in the industry, but Kenneth and her relationship will never change. They wish the best for each other and she would message him when he has a new series and comment on it. It’s funny how when Kenneth was saying that Sharon is one of the few ‘girl’ friends he has that he is actually brave enough to really talk to, the host asked him why he’s afraid to talk to girls.  Sharon says Kenneth treats her as a boy and laughs that Kenneth’s too shy to talk to girls.

Kenneth keeps looking to Sharon for guidance and Sharon tells him to speak himself. Kenneth admits that they share secrets and Sharon says he knows she’d never tell anyone about his secrets. Sharon also feels that Kenneth is very dependable, but not doesn’t give her a brother feeling like Joel does. Yet, she doesn’t feel like he’s a girl, he’s just a very special person that she wants to tell things to …a listener…

Sharon says she would be truly happy if Kenneth became “big” and that if he ever got an award, she would cry. She says that she would be very happy for everyone she cared about (aw..that’s so sweet).

When asked whether they would ever like each other, Kenneth says he doesn’t know (haha. the typical awkward Kenneth answer). He also says she knows too much about him though.

The host asked whether Kenneth can cook, but he said he couldn’t. Sharon said it would be plus if a guy learned to cook for u. (Kenneth said he’d learn to cook for a girl he really liked) She also said that in DOC, thanks to the script for saying she doesn’t like Kenneth as much as he likes her, or else she would have fallen for him (haha. Sharon just knows how to make Kenneth awkward).

Sharon laughs that the show has become a dating show, and the host laughs saying that she was just trying to see how quiet Kenneth can keep. Sharon says that whenever you say things like this, Kenneth can’t even look at me…(haha…too cute).

They laugh at how Kenneth likes Donald Duck. His mom’s fav cartoon is also Donald Duck. Sharon would buy stuff for him when she sees them but feels like shes buying stuff for her nephews. His Mom bought him his first Donald Duck during a Japan trip in 1985 (wow that’s older than me!) and he’s liked it since then.

They say that Kenneth is very loyal/faithful and the host says that’s adding points. Sharon says she always knew that Kenneth was loyal, faithful, and filial…and she keeps selling him. Kenneth admits that he talks to Donald Duck (and the girls were like “He’s so cute…”) and that his Mom and him have bday parties for them.

haha. I think Sharon was beginning to be a little creeped out by the Bday parties and that his Mom treats it like her grandson (haha. Kenneth needs to get married and have a baby soon or else! haha. )

The host asked what type of girl Sharon thinks Kenneth likes and she was like, I’ve always though he likes girls w/ long hair, not too fat/thin, and kinda “cute”… (Sharon say that that was only her opinion that Kenneth should stop pouting and he replies that he wasn’t pouting, he was just thinking…)..not like ‘retarded’ cute…but like a cute face…. and absolutely has to be very filial like him!

The host further ask Sharon to take some time to think which TVB actress she thinks is most like Kenneth’s type (telling her to disregard Kenneth’s feelings)

Kenneth admits that Sharon is sorta right about his type, but that he’s not big on looks…that as long as she’s OK looking to him then it’s fine. He’s actually afraid of girls that are too pretty. He remembers he had two classmates w/ really pretty gfs (they were mixed – oh so Kenneth thinks mix girls are hott?) and they were very hard to get along with. So he has that impression of pretty girls. He’s more into personality and he likes girls that are more “simple” (innocent).

Sharon’s answer: the slimmed down Myolie Wu. (Sharon was so nice to him, I don’t think she really meant it because she follows up by selling “To Grow With Love” saying that he’s chasing after her in the series and must feel someting for her right now) – the host laughs that Sharon is being soft on him!

Kenneth’s reply: He’s afraid to say whether Myolie’s his type (They laugh that he’s afraid of fighting w/ someone..and he say’s that’s one point)  Also, he’s had very few scenes w/ Myolie until TGWL and they’ve been very plain friends …and he’s doesn’t really understand her very well ( like they’re not really close close)…

Sharon tells the host to stop asking Kenneth and the host says that she’s not gonna ask anymore that her conclusion is: Myolie is “no” and Sharon is “don’t know.” The host also says that Kenneth is not bad to talk to …actually he’s very enjoyable to talk to.

Aw…that is such a funny interview. I’m surprised to learn that Kenneth and Myolie aren’t that close. I guess they are just “friends” not “very good friends” like Sharon and Kenneth where they can share secrets. Kenneth is too cute for words. Note, this interview was during the airing of TGWL so that’s like 2006? That was before Kenneth got his Most Improved Award and Sharon seemed to already know (I guess it was very hyped up)…and said she’d be very happy for him if he got ! I wonder if she cried cuz we know that Yoyo teared up when Kenneth got it! I was really expecting Sharon to give an honest answer, but then again, she wouldn’t sell Kenneth out like that (or else he wouldn’t trust her like he does)! Weirdly, Sharon does fit all his characteristics, except I do feel she’s a little bit too extroverted for him …he may like not “too-shy” girls, but Sharon’s a little bit of a party-girl (It’s so amazing how Kenneth can be friends w/ Timmy, Sharon, Angela, Toby, and Christine, who are all such crazy extroverted ppl!)

I’m glad they are such great friends! I’d love to see them in a series together again (playing best friends or a couple)! I can’t believe I’ve never heard this interview before!

The girls voted Kenneth & Kenny as the hottest. Kenny poked fun at how all the girls were staring dreamily as Kenneth walked out, saying that he looked so cool. (right click and click play)

Kenneth Ma and Selena Li’s Mutual Connection

October 31, 2008 at 7:09 pm (interviews, selena li)

Please note that this is not an official translation of the article.  There may be some mistakes, and minor errors on the translation.  I’ve tried my best to include everything and not to make any alteration to the original meaning; however there had been a few parts that I had to change a little in order to make the content “flow” better.  Please excuse me for any English grammar errors or word choice I’ve made. Thanks!

Selena welcomes Kenneth to launch a pursuit of her, smiling she says she doesn't mind multiple pursuers

Kenneth has worked with Selena Li and Kate Tsui numerous times, and Kenneth has been paired up with each of them in different series. However when asked to pick between the two “onscreen girlfriends,” Kenneth honestly says that he likes Selena more, implementing “love Selena, give up Kate.”

Kenneth and Selena paired up again as a couple in TVB’s “The Four”

The two of them have worked together as a couple over 5 times.  The number of times they’ve worked together is no fewer than the times Kenneth has worked with his “rumor girlfriend” Kate. However, if he had to the pick between the two “onscreen girlfriend,” Kenneth likes Selena more, and announces that Selena’s personality/characteristics matches his taste. She has the quality/criteria that is required for his being his girlfriend.

Kenneth agrees that Selena is very delicate, fitting all the qualities he's looking for in a wife

He likes girls that are 小 鳥 伊 人
(gentle/weak, feminine, demure; pinyin: “siu liu yi yan” ).
Kenneth says: “Between Selena and Kate, I will pick Selena, because she gives me the feeling of being quiet, polite, and elegant. In contrast, Kate gives the impression that she is strong, has her own opinions, but I like “soft/gentle” type of girls. (What’s the criteria/characteristics for you when choosing a girlfriend?) Long hair, small/tiny (physical size), 小 鳥 伊 人, but can’t be too shy/quiet, because I’m too quiet/shy. (Selena suits you then?) Yeah, too bad she already has a “rumor boyfriend” Patrick Tang!”

She doesn’t mind a lot of guys fighting for her
As for Selena, she agrees that Kenneth’s physical appearance matches well with hers, that they really are a perfect onscreen couple. She says: “Kenneth seems like a really dependable guy (down to earth) and he gives others the impression that he is a “home/family” type of guy. As for me, I seem really quiet/polite/elegant, I don’t have too many rumors, and can be considered a good girl.  Hence, Kenneth and I match up pretty well. (Kenneth complemented that you’re quiet/gentle?) There’s a tough (bold/strong) side of me. I sometimes sit with my leg up, but while I was in Canada, I was really poised, maybe because life in Canada is kind of simple. I fit his criteria for a girlfriend? Is that for real? I think Kenneth is very good looking. (He said too bad you have Patrick?) I don’t mind being fought over for by a lot of guys!”

Kenneth & Selena have been paired together over five times, developing a deep connection worth full points

Happy Halloween guys!

Comments: Finally, I’m commenting on this article haha. First off, KenSelena are so darn cute together! Actually, of all of Kenneth’s costars, I’ve always imagined Selena to be the closest to “his type.” I don’t know why, I just always thought Kenneth would like the more gentle good girls and Selena seemed the most like that. I guess I was right. Too bad she has Patrick or she is ‘rumored’ to have him anyways. Why oh why? Kenneth is the better catch in my opinion! I’m OK with Patrick, but for some reason I always imagined him as being too witty and somehow party boy like (kinda like Timmy Hung, but not exactly). I have a strange feeling that Kenneth’s super picky about his ideal girl lol. OMG. Noooooo…Kenneth likes little girls?! Haha. that sounded wrong, I meant like short girls? Is that what he means? I hope that’s not true (that just pops my dreams about BK), but then again, any girl standing next to Kenneth can be considered little as long as she’s below 5’10” (wishful thinking). Bernice isn’t too shy, and I feel that, despite her Westernized personality, she’s pretty feminine  (she has her cutesy/flirty voice). Anyways, it’s ok. That’s just his ideal girl, not necessarily who he dates. Btw, Linda Chung also seems to fit all the qualities, except she too is a little on the tall side.

Btw, does any one know what Month on the 2009 TVB Calendar Kenneth’s gonna be on? Who’s betting we’ll see KenSelena on the same month?!

Walk With Celebrities

September 24, 2008 at 2:58 pm (interviews, videos)

The above link was an excerpt from the Interview show, Walk With Celebrities. This is not the show (TVB8), but instead a version from the Salesian English School, Kenneth’ s 2ndary School. It’s a really cute clip of Kenneth talking about his school life. I particularly loved the comments left in the yearbook…very funny… haha Kenneth has always been chatty but pointless. Nice to get to know more about Kenneth. Please do post the clip of the actual show if any one has it!

Kenneth & Grace on RTHK show

August 15, 2008 at 9:15 pm (interviews, strictly come dancing)

Special Thanks to TVB obsessions @ AF for this awesome new banner! Haha..i LOVE it so much!

Kenneth & Grace Wong Interview about SCDII @ RTHK

Starts at around Time: 8.00 (then you have to wait some time for commercials til the 2nd half starts)

Cute pix from SCD2 from Grace Wong. There are many more at the site – go visit it!

That was a very cute interview with a lot of laughs. Really nice to hear that they are all friends (they all still come out and eat together in a group) and that they both enjoyed the experience very much even though Kenneth really didn’t wanna go. haha. It was so cute to hear Grace say that Kenneth likes to pretend to be a “good boy” in front of them…haha she sure likes making fun of him as she giggles and calls him MaMing. Grace even says she wants to dance w/ Kenneth. Kenneth replied that it was either him or Timmy so there’s a chance, but Grace has marked him! (poor Timmy, first Chen Lu and now Grace… he might have to really stab Kenneth as he did in one of the training videos to win a lady!)

It was also nice to hear Heidi Chu (haha wonder if she knew back in the day when they filmed Summer Friends Forever as a pair that he’d be so big!) say how she’s spoken to women of different ages and that they all agree that Kenneth looks really prince-like and charming/handsome when he’s dancing! Heidi keeps poking fun at “Hugo” w/ the guy host referencing him as the golden jackpot.

Also nice to hear them ask him if there was any animosity b/t him and his Training Class classmates since he, unlike many of them, was so highly educated and older when he joined. Too bad they didn’t talk much about S4…very little.haha… Heidi laughed at Kenneth’s love for Donald Duck and said that that’s so rare to find in a grown man…

Kenneth even admitted that it’s usually easy for him to fall in love with his costars, but there are also some that he couldn’t fall for. The way they ask him that was funny. (I really wonder…hm…haha)

So you heard it, Kenneth’s goal in life is still Benz, Wayne,..or Sean Lau… and Heidi mentioned that it shocks ppl cuz Kenneth is a good looking guy and can surely be more…

Kenneth also commented that Niu Meng Meng is very pretty…haha…aw…(ok he was asked..but he didn’t circumvent the question w/ an of course…don’t u think so? or anything like that!)

Old Article: Kenneth Ma wholeheartedly gets star’s manual

May 5, 2008 at 1:45 am (interviews)

Caption: The Thousand Mile Horse (“Chin Lei Ma”)

Crazy/Silly Ming

“I’ll start from when I was small, shall I?” Kenneth smiles, “I have a nickname called ‘Crazy/Silly Ming’, really naughty. Once I banged my head into the television and my mum and dad both were really angry at me and treated me to ‘stick beaten pork’ (expression to say that they hit him with a stick). When they finished, I chucked the stick into the bin so I wouldn’t have to be beaten again…” Tall and handsome Kenneth laughs as he reminisces. As he grew older, his relationship with his family became very good and he slowly became influenced by his mother’s favourite idol. This led to his entering the entertainment industry.

Mrs. Ma’s idol is someone everyone knows, Leslie Chueng (famous hk actor/singer from 80s). The Ma family always had his voice in the background and Mrs Ma even said “I want to have an English name called Monica(name of one of his most famous songs)!” After that, Kenneth began to like Leslie also; his favourite song is [not written here] and his most unforgettable moment is “when Leslie made that soft drink commercial, in the moment when everyone held up a bottle of soft drink, i love that bit!”

Coming into the industry in 1999, he became a part of the 14th TVB Acting academy. This was his first test story before officially entering the industry, where he met stars such as Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Sean Lau Ching Wan. All of these encounters made his heart beat fast. He, however, is not a fanatic, but when faced with an idol with mesmerising screen presence, as well as a friendly easygoing attitude, he would be moved completely.

Artists getting close to fans, things have changed.

Kenneth says, “They all are cultured and have manners. Anyone that greets them, they will respond with a nod and smile. When the waiter brings them food, they will say thank you! Getting close to their fans with no arrogance. Look, a successful artist must do well in other areas as well. If they treat others with respect, then obviously only good things can be said about them.”

When Kenneth first entered television industry, his kind personality and manners naturally showed his honesty and friendliness. He says, “I only wanted to be an artist, but sometimes friends tease you about having fans, people asking you for photos/autographs, you’re famous! Inside, I really don’t feel all those things they described. I tell myself, now is only the beginning, the support fans give me is very important, but truthfully, I don’t have a bit of that feeling of fame.” He says it in one breath, and one can see that his words are filled with truth and honesty.

Don’t choose roles, do your homework!

I told him, “Others have told me in ‘Scavengers Paradise’, Kenneth’s character is a bit fake, but they’ve also said that you’re very open. How do you feel?” Kenneth listens intently, and then replies, “I know that the pressure is there. A compliment is always followed by a complaint. When I’m lost, i will tell myself, listen to the director, cooperate with the other artists, with all my power, bring to the character all the traits it should have. Then I will have done my homework for every series!”

His previous roles have included a murderer, pervert, cameos and in ‘Loving You’, a gigilo. In all honesty, “Are you happy to portray those roles?” A quick reply, “As an artist, no matter what character I am given to play by the company, I am very willing. This is because its what’s required in the job. Besides, I see it as an opportunity to improve!”

Take in skills, its a neverending battle.

“I hope that one day, I can act in various different roles. For example, homosexual, romances with large age gaps, mentally disabled people. As long as the role comes to me, I will give it my best to portray.” Kenneth has a positive outlook and sees the upcoming future as an opportunity. When I directly asked him “So have you thought about being a siu sang (famous respected male actor)?” He looked me in the eye and replied, “Even with when I have that chance, I hope it will be due to my hard work, to become in the audience and other’s minds, a siu sang with experience!” Up til this point, the writer thinks of those artists that are classified as siu sang and fa dans (famous respected female artist), who are actually just relying on outside appearances. Taking a closer look, they’re just ornaments, perhaps, in Kenneth’s heart, the acting industry is an neverending battle. Those artists that reside in his heart: Tony Leung Ka Fai, Chow Yun Fat, Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Sean Lau Ching Wan and so on, are the most experienced and seasoned actors. Their common point is the fact that they are not arrogant and are willing to be “Fan friendly”.

Do your best, it will have returns.
Recently watching him in ‘Into Thin Air’, even though he is not the lead,he has improved his performance. He says, “Every time I walk into the studio, I tell myself to keep focus, I am an artist. In my opinion, each scene is an opportunity. If you can’t do it right, even with a second or third chance, would there be a fourth chance?” At this moment, I thought of Andy Lau Tak Wah and what he said to a reporter, “Today you get an A, and you hear endless applause, but it doesn’t mean your next product will be an A+. There are ups and downs in life, but by being diligent, your results won’t change too much.”

Last entry: Using soccer’s team spirit to kill the entertainment industry
Kenneth loves soccer with a passion, no matter forward, centre or goalkeeper position, he can prove himself as a pro. “Soccer is about team cooperation, no matter how you kick or pass, there needs to be team synergy. This can be said about anything as they all require team spirit. If each person keeps to their position, the chance of another team kicking the ball in the goal is lessened.” He didn’t mention the topic of entertainment industry in this conversation. A swimming upstream Kenneth, under pressure, he tells himself, diligence is the most precious object.

Old Article: Kenneth Ma believes people of different personalities can be in the same environment, 8/24/07

May 5, 2008 at 1:43 am (interviews, Uncategorized)

Kenneth Ma believes that people of different personalities can be in the same environment; no fear of being compared with others

Sun Post Aug 24 2007

One of TVB’s heavily promoted sui sangs (actors) has always been an introvert and modest kind of person. The reason behind how this kind of personality developed was probably because he was always the “little/baby boy” at home, Kenneth responds, “At home, it’s where the women are in power, my dad and I don’t really say much and won’t argue with the females, I have a lot of older sisters, so the ratio of females to males are definitely higher. However, the one who is the most powerful of all has to be my mom, all decisions – no matter of great importance or not, is made by her, she takes care of everything that goes on at home basically.

When asked whether he would worry that his personality would become a disadvantage for him in the workplace, he shook his head and said, “There’s got to be a lot of comparison between people, every company out there will have people that possess difference characteristics and personalities. Having all the different kinds of people will ensure ‘a chance for all the different kinds of flowers to bloom’ (a Chinese saying 百花齊放). The one thing I look forward to most is being able to portray a character that will be able to leave a deep impression in the audiences’ hearts.

3Weekly: Frog Prince – Kenneth Ma

April 19, 2008 at 6:20 pm (interviews)

It is sometimes inevitable for artistes, who live under the shine of neon lights, have their true self masked by the bright lights. In order to understand them at a deeper level, one can only do so when they’re outside the studios and in the real world.

The gigantic time wheel will only continue to spin forward; this is an unchanging rule. As time passes, the contents of that book of recollections inside each of our heart will only get richer and more exciting. The image of Kenneth Ma seen by people through the television screens is ever-changing – sometimes a joker, sometimes a suave lawyer. However, he personally feels that he is still the same sloppy kid on the soccer field from twenty years ago. Having gone through the passage of time, having seen all kinds of bizarre happenings in showbiz, this sloppy kid is slowly evolving from a ‘wild horse’ into a ‘refined horse’. He even has the chance of being the unexpected ‘dark horse’. Read the rest of this entry »

Old: Superman Radio Interview

April 5, 2008 at 6:53 pm (interviews, margie tsang)

Kenneth Ma was interviewed by Richard and Margie on their talk show Superman. It was on the 26th of April, SP was airing for the 2nd week. They started off discussing about the series where Kenneth played Tang Keng Chung. When he received the script for SP he was quite scared since it’s his first time in a real comedy and having such a large part to play. Although SP is quite successful in HK, when he goes out, still not many people recognizes him, probably due to the fact that his appearance is quite different from how it is in SP, this allows him to keep his personal life and he is quite content with that. But of course when they go to functions and have the whole costume on, then people will recognize him. He’s been the industry for about 5 years now and this role in SP would probably be the biggest so far. Another series where he has a big part in would be DP, where he portrayed a somewhat evil role.

Richard then asked him whether he has a nickname people call him at work, Kenneth replied that there are many, almost everybody calls him something different, but he doesn’t have a specific nickname. Richard suggests that he should use his character in SP and make up a nickname for himself, so that people can know him better and remember him easier. Read the rest of this entry »

3 Weekly Issue 373: Hot Favourite Dark Horse – Kenneth Ma (11/25/06)

March 14, 2008 at 9:30 pm (interviews, news)

Kenneth Ma was originally a happy young horse, among the reasons are the following:

1. His father is an engineer and although they are not rich, they had no worries for their livelihood.

2. Apart from his parents, he also has a pair of twin elder sisters. As the youngest son in the family, he has the love of the whole family.

3. After graduating from the TVB acting class in 1999, many of his classmates are still passer-bys, but in just five years, Kenneth was promoted to one of the ‘Six Olympic Stars’ and then joined the ranks of second male lead, with quite a rapid rise up the ranks.

This is all on the surface though and few people know that he was once the person inside the cockroach suit to play ‘Siu Keung’ in Dayo Wong’s MV.

After graduating with a degree in mechanical engineer, he had a great career ahead of him, but he chose to become an actor and those who do not understand his reasons, will think that he is seeking fame and fortune and deserves to end up as a cockroach.

From his days hiding behind the cockroach suit to boldly taking the award for ‘Most Improved Male Artiste’ at the TVB anniversary awards as a dark horse, there is a story of blood, sweat, tears and hard work that is worth learning from. However, he keeps his modest approach: “From beginning to end, I had never imagined I would win the award because there were many people there who were better than me.”

Asked if he felt he was being bullied by Nat Chan, who sprayed him with red paint during the anniversary show, Kenneth defended Nat, saying: “We had expected to be made fun of that night and I thought they didn’t take it far enough because they didn’t even mention my rumours with Margie Tsang.”

The hardest to believe is that when asked about his low points in his thirty odd years, he thinks dopily for a moment before saying: “I have not had any low points really.”

No low points in life? That is strange.

Even stranger is that this Kenneth who often makes people laugh in front of the camera is not really one who talks or laughs a lot in private. He is cool, but not in a way that will leave you with hard feelings.

Following in the Footsteps of Benz Hui to be a Character Actor

Returning to the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, Kenneth was lucky enough to be chosen as one of TVB’s ‘Six Olympic Stars’. At the time, he was 30 years of age and much older compared with the other stars: Raymond Lam, Ron Ng, Sammul Chan, Bosco Wong and Lai Lok Yi, you could say he was an ‘overaged star’ and this raised some criticisms. His age also affected his progress in showbiz, but life is full of surprises and three years later, the 33-year old Kenneth is becoming more and more popular.

The ‘Most Improved’ award winners of the past have included Moses Chan, Raymond, Ron and Bosco and they are all in the line of leading male artistes, so there is reason to believe that this award is a great step up for any male artiste, but Kenneth does not feel too much about this and has never thought that this would take him up a level. He has not put any more pressure on himself, because at the moment he is still second lead and whether the ratings are good or bad, it is not up to him to worry about it.

“Take for example the forthcoming series ‘Curious Detective’, the male lead is Roger Kwok and if anyone needs to worry, it is him and not me. From entering this industry, I just know that I have to do my job well and perform my roles well. You can say I have won ‘Most Improved Actor’, but to be honest, I am still finding my way in acting. I have never thought about being an idol, my target is to become a character actor like Benz Hui (Hui Siu Hung).

“Take my niece for instance, she likes to listen to A’s songs today, but when I see her in a few days time, she will have changed to listening to B, The fans of the idols move around and it is very insecure. You say you are good looking, but tomorrow there will be someone even more good looking appearing on the scene. How can you stand that? Character acting is different, take Sean Lau and Benz Hui for example, have you ever heard of someone saying that they like Sean one day and then Benz the next?”

This photo was taken when Kenneth was about three years old, but he does not remember when or where this was. – After seven years in the industry, Kenneth has had minimal gossip, the biggest of which was being linked with Margie Tsang

Young Master Finds Independence in Canada

Kenneth attended secondary school at Chai Wan’s Tse Yau School and loved playing football [soccer] from an early age. Throughout primary and secondary school, football was his life. As the youngest in the family, he did not have to worry about much at home, so he spent all his spare time kicking a ball around. At Form 5, he was well and truly the young master of the Ma family and it was only in 1992 when his family emigrated to Canada that he put this behind him and learned to be independent.

Kenneth went to school six days a week and played football six days a week, but despite this, his results were better than some, but not as good as others. At home he was the apple of his parents’ eyes and he had whatever he wanted. When he learned that they were to emigrate, his HKCEE examinations were of no matter any more, but he still took part in them and passed all his exams, maybe thanks to his natural talent and potential.

After moving to Canada, he continued his studies and although he did not struggle in life, this young master had new responsibilities, because his father was an ‘immigration spaceman’ [a term for fathers who returned to Hong Kong to make a living after emigrating] and Kenneth was left in Canada having to look after his mother and sisters. As the only man in the house, he had to take on the burden of looking after the women and as well as doing the housework, doing things such as changing lightbulbs, clearing the snow and cutting the grass all became his responsibility, so Kenneth waved goodbye to his ‘young master’personality.

“If I had not emigrated to Canada, or if my father did not have to return to Hong Kong, then I would still be a young master who did nothing.” Kenneth’s father is a mechanical engineer and under this influence, Kenneth chose to study this subject at university in the hope of forging a career for himself in the world of engineering, but it was the response from a letter applying for employment that changed the path of his life.

The happiest thing for Kenneth in winning an award was going home to celebratory soup from his mum and some lucky packets from his sisters – Before winning the award, Kenneth had been chosen by a skincare sponsor to be their new spokesperson.

Not Becoming an Engineer, Becoming ‘Siu Keung’ Instead

After a few years living in Canada, Kenneth’s family decided they were more suited to life in Hong Kong, so in 1998 after Kenneth graduated, they moved back to Hong Kong. After returning, Kenneth tried to apply to work in an engineering firm, but he felt he did not fit in, so he thought about changing his career. He sent out six or seven letters seeking employment but he only received a reply from one of them and that was for an interview at TVB’s Artiste Training Class.

As a mechanical engineer, Kenneth’s father naturally wanted his son to follow in his footsteps, but he is a very open-minded person and when he found out about the audition, he urged his son to give it a try, but Kenneth has other thoughts about this: “I have suspected that my father telling me to try it was because he thought I would definitely not get in, so he had no worries about me going.”

In the end, Kenneth was accepted into the class and his family were very supportive. In 1999, after Kenneth graduated from the class, he was like all the other graduates and sent to gain experience from passer-by roles, the most memorable of which was to dress up in a cockroach suit for the music video of Dayo Wong’s song ‘Blue Sky’. “Beforehand, I did not know that I had to play Siu Keung, so when I arrived at the studio, I was a little shocked and I held some hard feelings, but afterwards I found it was quite fun and I treated it as a challenge in life.”

After this, Kenneth’s roles were by no means meaty, but at least he was able to show his face and he had more lines, as well as more NG’s [outtakes]. For example in “At the Threshold of an Era II”, he played one of Gallen Lo’s men and in one scene, he had some lines, but NG’ed around thirty or forty times and the crew looked on in despair as they watched him goofing up over and over again, longing to finish and go home. “At the time, they kept improvising the script and I had a lot of long lines. The more nervous I got, the more I NG’ed and the more I NG’ed, the more nervous I became, so even up to now, I have a phobia of script improvisation.” Kenneth is very hardworking, and despite loving to watch football, he has still spent time to learn his script well for ‘Curious Detective’ rather than watch his beloved English Premier League and Spanish football. Here is another example of how success has been forged through taking time to learn scripts well and not through pure luck.

Kenneth is a talented comedian and at the TVB artistes party, his imitation of Ekin Cheng was among the most popular acts – although Kenneth is a little cool, he is always game for a laugh and being sprayed with paint at the anniversary did not leave him upset, but he was calling for more instead.

Does Not Rule out Dating Margie Tsang

Kenneth’s popularity has risen sharply recently. Apart from taking the ‘Most Improved’ award, he also became the highlight of the Annual Artiste’s Presentation Party by dressing up as Ekin Cheng and then being the victim of Nat Chan’s antics at the Anniversary show and being criticised by the viewers. His news has been covering the entertainment press of late, but before all this, there was very little gossip about Kenneth and if it wasn’t for him being linked to Margie Tsang, there would have been next to no news about him.

As an artiste, appearing in the press is important to gain audience recognition, but for Kenneth when he first emerged on the scene, he was very afraid of seeing himself in the papers because he held the intention of just giving a good show. “Whenever I saw myself in the papers and magazines then, I would become very frightened, it was only after some advice from many seniors that I did not become as scared. For example, the first gossip I had was suggesting I was dating Kate Tsui and it was very unnerving. Now they link me with Margie Tsang and say that we have already split up, but then we are working together on ‘Curious Detective’, so they say we are getting back together. I have got used to it now.”

Asked about the story of how he got to know Margie, Kenneth tells the story directly: “I met her once when I was on her radio show to promote ‘Scavenger’s Paradise’ and she introduced me to some charity show work. We kept in touch after that and we are good friends.” With him being so open, the opportunity was taken to ask if there is a chance of them developing a relationship. “I really daren’t say, but I will not close all my doors and say it definitely will not happen. We don’t know what will happen in the future and there is a chance of a relationship between anyone. At the moment, the spark is not there, but who knows what will happen in the future. If I am dating, then I will not be afraid to admit it.”

Kenneth emphasises though that his first choice for a girlfriend would be someone from outside the industry and he does not just go for looks because he has many friends who have beautiful girlfriends, but their personalities are terrible. Kenneth says that he has a fear of troublesome women. Another thing is that if you want to be Kenneth’s girl, then you must have one quality and that is to be able to live with his family. “My father and mother are renowned for being easy going, if you cannot live with them, then this is a problem and with this problem, there is no chance of marriage.” Change Change Change

Kenneth’s manager beside him during the shoot said: “His image is too positive, even if he has gossip people will not believe it.”

Kenneth says that in the seven years in showbiz, his personality has not changed very much, but he has started to adjust to the rules of the entertainment industry game.

Although he has not changed much, the change has been there.

Remember in 2004, when Kenneth joined the others as the ‘Six Olympic Stars’, this was the first chance for him to be introduced to the viewed and raise interest in him by the press.

At the time, I [reporter] was among those who were interviewing the six stars and my impression of Kenneth was of a person who did not say very much but was a man of action. The press would ask him a question and he would answer the question very politely. He was a typical ‘good boy’ image and one of those newcomers who would not find success through gossip.

Three years later, coming into contact again with Kenneth, the gossip is still minimal, but at least he knows what the press want from him and although he is still a man of few words, what he says is quality.

For example, when asked about his opinion on romance, he will say: “I will not be afraid of gossip and not pursue an affair with an older woman. When you love someone, then even if they are not a woman, then I would not mind if they were a man.”

Another example, when you ask about the criteria for a lover, he will say: “I am afraid of girls with bad tempers, so if I meet these people, I often want to give them a good slapping.”

Whether these comments are engineered purely for the press or whether they come from the heart, he has at least learned and changed how to talk to the media now.

The magazine had some incorrect info.

Kenneth wasn’t working at an engineering firm. He was working at an architecture firm that had nothing to do with his major and all day he’d be running around with blue prints. The magazine had this wrong. He tried to apply and find an engineering job but couldn’t find any. He sent more than 6 or 7 letters he sent 70 letters and had no replies. I corrected it on the article already since Em said she typed the wrong number. That’s because during that time HK’s economy was at a very low point. Those were the things he said in his radio interview on the Superman radio show hosted by Margie Tsang and Lai Lik Chi. I believe what Kenneth said in person on the radio more than what the magazine wrote just wanted to correct this. I still have the 2hour radio interview at home and will try to upload and post it at his forum over here in about a week for those who haven’t listened to it since rthk deleted the show already.

Comments: Kenneth is such a sweet heart! And for the reporters that say if they don’t ask about Margie what else is there to write about, then the above shows that there’s tons more to Kenneth than rumors!

3周刊馬明專訪 – face to face: 眾褢尋她千百度 馬國明

March 13, 2008 at 12:12 am (interviews)

Today is Feb. 14th and Kenneth just turned 34. He, in his strongest year, with his age in the HK entertainment industry, seems to be a bit over aged, only if he is very popular, or else he is only wasting time. He has been in the industry for 7 years, and nevertheless, he lacks 桃花. Along with those other male leading actors that became alot more famous than him (eg. Ron, Sammul, Bosco, etc..), Kenneth was accused to be in lack of style, good skin, and fame.

When people said he lacks the sense of fame in him, Kenneth has tried to change himself like wearing sunglasses or changing his style of clothing, wishing he could bring a bit of character to his appearance. However, he has failed to do so. Just like this interview, when Kenneth arrives, he wears a black jacket along with a cap; as typical as everyone on the streets. Not until the camera man turns the cameras to him, do people around start noticing his existence.
“Actually I was told that I lack character, I’ve tried to change, but in two or three months, I changed back to my old self. Why do actors need to have a sense of character? In my opinion, I realized if I carry a strong sense of character and style, it would affect my involvement in acting. Look at CHow Yun Fat, he can still walk around on the street and go to supermarkets to get groceries. ”
Kenneth claims that he is very typical. Although he is not good at dressing himself, he is for sure a very tidy, organized homemaker. He said his room is always the cleanest place in his house. “I went to an actor’s house. WAH! His house is as messy as a garbage room. So what if he has character and style? … I won’t tell who it is.. He is one of the main actors in TVB. ”

The entertainment industry is always the most realistic place. If you are handsome, in style, or has good oral skills, you are already partially successful. But Kenneth is in absence of the above descriptions, so he could only rely on his strengths (Acting). “The first time when I straightened up my thoughts was when I was filming for Scavenger’s Paradis. Before that time, I would only sit quietly by myself on the side and no one would notice me. But after we finished filming for that series, 安仔 (Roger Kwok) and 祥仔 (Wayne Lai) taught me a lot about how I should live my life outside of acting. Not until then I realized my problem: I overly disclose (closed up?) myself. So at last I tried to open up more. Actually I have already improved a lot since then. If you were interviewing me a fews years before, I would be answering with one word; for sure I will be making you so angry.”

However, the most troubling statement that caused Kenneth to wake up was stated by 許紹雄 (Benz Hui). ” I remember when I was filming for <怪俠一枝梅> (The Vigilante in a Mask) as a supporting role, he saw me being quiet all the time, so he started talking to me and to see what I’m doing. I was really afraid and didn’t know what I was supposed to do. I even become afraid that I might over-act and overshadow the main role. And who knows why, he yelled at me and said, “What are you afraid of? You’ve never even over act yourself.” At that moment, I had a light bulb going on in my head. So I started to reflect on what I needed to do, so when I filmed for <同撈同煲> (Scavenger’s Paradise), I started to release my inner self. ”

After his self-release, Kenneth’s acting has been reassured and is starting to gradually gain popularity. In 2005, Kenneth was able to get good feedbacks from audience in 同撈同煲; also, he even achieved the award of “Best Improvement artist” in 2006. In 2008, Kenneth is for sure one of the leading male artists in TVB. Other than “the master of taichi” that is coming up soon, there are also <幕後大老爺> ,<少年四大名捕>, <甜言蜜語>, <古靈精探>. Seems like he is doing a lot better than Ron ng and 黎諾懿 (Lai Lok Yi?).

Although his career is starting to light up, his love life is still pretty plain. In his 7 years of acting, he has been on the cover once. It was about his relationship with Margie Tsang. At that time, Kenneth was claimed to be in love with watching her on <430穿梭機> and even claiming her as his “dream lover”. Even after all those years, when they met in TVB, Kenneth supposedly has transformed his admiration to love.

His one and only time on cover has become the main topic to talk about when interviewing Kenneth. ” I know I don’t have a lot of things to talk about, like one time when one of the reports asked me about Margie and our relationship, I asked back why even bother asking since this topic is so out-dated already. Then the reporter told me, “You don’t have much gossip and news to talk about, so if I don’t write about you and Margie then what is there to write about?” at that moment, I really didn’t know what to respond.”

It’s always better to have something to write about when being an artist. Entirely about this relationship, from going out, breaking up, getting back together, breaking up again, to even writing about Margie’s son not liking Kenneth, there isn’t much that this topic could expand into.

About fighting over Margie with her 8 year old son, Kenneth did not respond but only felt helpless. “I have known her for almost 2 years now, I’ve only seen her son’s picture once, how can we not get along with each other?” In “Survivor’s Law 2 and The Master of Tai Chi”, Kenneth plays the role of a father. This can show his popularity with the kids. “Actually, I m really good with kids. Just like my nephews. Everytime they see me, they don’t want to leave.”

The rumors between Kenneth and Kate Tsui going out seem to be more reasonable than the ones about Kenneth and Margie. The two of them were partnered up in La Femme Desperado a while ago. First, insiders said they did not get along, then we were told that Kate even took the initiative in chasing Kenneth. Now, the most recent version of the rumor is Kenneth accepted Kate. Now supposedly as they are filming for <甜言蜜語>(Sweet Talk), Kenneth took the lead of chasing Kate. “Actually Kate has mentioned before that I m not her cup of tea. It is impossible for both of us to be together.”

Although Kenneth seems very casual about this topic, after some research, we have found that he did once compliment Kate. And this was described as his implication of love towards Kate. “Yes, at that moment, there were reporters asking me what kind of feelings I have towards Kate. Well, I’m a man, I cannot say things like she’s not the one for me, or something like she is not good enough, not my cup of tea…. so I just said something along the line of ‘yah. she is pretty good, she is kind of pretty.’ Then it turns out that I claimed to have good feelings towards (like) her. I was totally innocent on that. ”

So now he has claimed that Kate and him are impossible, not even leaving a back door open.

Kenneth has mentioned he had two relationships before he started his career in the entertainment industry.
In real life, Kenneth is still searching for the love of his life. He even said he really wants love to come into his life. But because he was living without it for so long, he does not crave for it as much. “Actually, after all these years not being in a relationship, it feels very dry, but there is nothing I can do. Relationships and these kind of things, you cannot force it too much. When you like somebody, she might not like you back. People outside the entertainment industry might not understand the life-style of an artist. And people within the industry might not want to make their relationship public.”

“If I tell you that I have not fallen for any girls in the last few years, I would be lying to you; you wouldn’t even believe me either. But sometimes you cannot expect to have a girl work around your schedule; both of you have to care about each other’s feelings. When you want to start (a relationship), you will start to feel scared about getting photographed by reporters or the paparazzi. Actually, there is a lot of pressure on me.” And about his dream girl, Kenneth would not even say a word about her.

COMMENTS: A nice article about Kenneth. I love how frank he is. It does sound like he was forced to praise Kate though lol. He feels so pressured into saying nice things. But since they are friends, it’s totally ok for him to admit it. I have no idea what Kenneth is talking about when he says he has no style. Unless ppl wake up to dress his ever day, I think he has a LOT of style (unlike someone we all know… coughsBoscocoughs…lol)! I love the way he dresses. Casual, sporty, and like a normal guy. Aww… he’s clean. It’s nice to know he’s neat…I wonder who the messy leading man is though…

Myolie Speaking About Kenneth

March 13, 2008 at 12:09 am (interviews, myolie wu)

Simple-minded Kenneth has simple luck

By Myolie Wu

Myolie once tried to persuade Kenneth not be a ‘quail’, now he has changed to have a sweet tongue!

I just realized that both Kenneth and I entered the industry in 1999, but the first time we acted as lovers was in last year’s series To Grow With Love. He is the first partner that I really admire. Kenneth Ma keeps emphasizing that he is a very ordinary person, but to me, he is not one bit ordinary!

Ma Ming is the nickname that we all call him by. A fan’s website had a tabulation of the number of times I worked with all the siu sangs, and only when I saw this did I realize that I worked the most number of times with Kenneth. I remember many years ago when I just entered the industry, I bumped into a tanned, slightly skinny, long haired and very tall man who looked slightly ghostly at the corridor. Half his body was plastered to the wall as he walked, as if afraid of bumping into people or being bumped into. When he saw me looking at him, he immediately nodded his head shyly, and quickly walked away. Thus I have a special impression of this guy, and he is Kenneth.

Career: Discovered after acting as a pervert

Kenneth can be considered to be one of the lucky few. After 3 years of taking on minor parts, he got the first chance to be promoted. He acted as a pervert who was obsessed with torn stockings on Survivors Law and had to repeatedly stare at my legs! After this, many directors began to know of his existence, and he then took part in the filming of the anniversary show Triumph in the Skies.

Taking The Benz Hui Road

Opportunities kept coming, but Kenneth was extremely ‘quail-like’. I remember when I filmed Scavenger’s Paradise with him, K100 visited the set and asked him questions but he did not want to answer. Once when I talked to him, he honestly said that he only wanted to be like Benz Hui, and it was enough for him to be able to go to have dinner after work. Did you know that Benz Hui’s car is also a Benz? If you continue to be ‘quail-like’, perhaps even the smallest opportunities would be lost.

3 years later, Kenneth has changed to become a siu sang, becoming more glib and willing to be interviewed. He frankly says that this was because of what the veterans advised him, “In this industry, one has to observe the rules of the game, if one doesn’t observe them, one might as well not do it! As long as it does not go over one’s minimum point it is fine!” Actually the veteran who gave him this advice was one of his idols Benz Hui!

Love: Has never dated Margie Tsang

When one is popular rumours will ensue, and Kenneth is no exception. Actually the first actress who was rumoured with him was Kate Tsui. He said, “When filming La Femme Desperado, it was the first time I was on the cover of a magazine. That time, I was really unhappy, I didn’t understand why I had to undergo this torture!” Actually to an artiste, rumours are not necessarily a bad thing. As long as it is not written too negatively, it can become a good topic. Now, Kenneth will no long have meals with Margie Tsang alone, and even when they meet at the company’s canteen, he is still afraid of rumours to some extent. Kenneth last relationship was 7 years ago, and his ex-girlfriend is already married. When asked whether he wants to date, he joked and said, “When I entered the company I already started looking for on, it’s just I can’t find any!” He admitted that he once liked the characters played by Michelle Yip and Cherie Kong! As his friend, I hope that he will quickly find a girl who is slightly more mature, even if she does not like Donald Duck (note: because Kenneth likes Donald Duck a lot), its ok if she likes Mickey Mouse!

Family: The sweet Donald Duck family

Kenneth grew up in a very blissful family. When he was studying, his parents never gave him any pressure and allowed him to make his own decisions. Even when he wanted to give up his job as an engineer to join the acting class, his family did not say anything much and allowed him to do anything as long as he was happy. Kenneth is close to his mother, and the family watches television together. When his mother sees special Donald Duck collectibles, she will also buy them for him. His family even celebrated the birthday of a Donald Duck stuffed toy! I really envy him for having such a good mother, no wonder Kenneth keeps saying that he wants to earn more money to give to his mother!

Epilogue: Not competing for awards

Kenneth and I were both nominated for “Best Actress” and “Most Improved Actor” award respectively for To Grow With Love during last year’s anniversary. Before the award ceremony, I told him, “You will definitely win tonight!” Then, he said with his characteristically humble attitude, “You are the one who will win!” In the end, he really won and I got nothing! After the event, he suddenly walked towards me and looked at me apologetically, “I’m really sorry! Hang Yi,” as if he took away my award. Now that I recall the incident, I really feel that Kenneth is really innocent, and very silly. I hope that this self professed ordinary worker who takes the train and bus to work will continue to improve while retaining his innocence and silly vigour.

Myolie and Kenneth has worked together many times but there have been no rumours about them, looks like the both of them have no fate to be lovers

Kenneth’s acting is becoming more mature, some people even say that he has Tony Leung’s qualities, no wonder Margie Tsang publicly expressed that she had good feelings towards him!

Kenneth is finally promoted, good friend Myolie naturally is happy for him.

Not only can Kenneth act well as a pervert, but can also handle comedic roles well, looks like it is only a matter of time that he gets more popular.

COMMENTS: I love what Myolie wrote about Kenneth. If anything makes me like Myolie a little, it would be that she and Kenneth are friends lol. I love her description of him and his family. Kenneth is adorkable…yes I didn’t mispell it!

Kenneth Ma & Linda Chung Look Forward to Evil Roles

March 13, 2008 at 12:06 am (interviews, linda chung)

Linda Chung and Kenneth Ma put on “piggy” faces for the year of the fire pig.

Currently heavily promoted by TVB, Kenneth Ma Kwok Ming and Linda chung Ka Yan hope to diversify their roles to polish their acting. In “Jewel’s Splendor,” Linda will be playing a bad girl character, while Kenneth Ma hopes to play more evil characters in the New Year.

Receiving the Most Improved Actor and Actress Awards, Kenneth and Linda posed for Appledaily yesterday. When Kenneth saw Linda, he said, “Wow, you’re really tall! I hope to work with you in the near future!” Isn’t Kenneth afraid that rumored girlfriend, Margie Tsang Wah Sin would be jealous?

Kenneth said, “I hope to act in theater productions because the quality of your performance can be easily measured by the audience’s immediate reaction. There is a great satisfaction in theater work as well. Also, I wish to take on more villian roles. Despite being well received by the audience when playing a good character, it is not as challenging.”

“I have always loved to act. Playing good characters all the time can be boring. On the other hand, villian roles are a lot of fun!”

Linda agreed with Kenneth’s comments. “Evil characters are good opportunities. In ‘Jewel’s Splendor,’ I play a rich girl. Due to my immense wealth, I do not regard men very highly and treat them as ‘play things.’ My character is a bad girl, which is an immense challenge!”

“I will also have the opportunity to work with seasoned artists such as Bowie Lam and Ada Choi Siu Fun in ‘Jewel’s Splendor,’ so I will gain a lot!”

What is Linda’s New Year wish? “I hope to have more catwalk jobs and earn more money, to help pay my home mortgage!”

Source: Appledaily

COMMENTS: After seeing this article, I got kinda freaked out that they’d pair Linda w/ Kenneth. I’m not worried about chemistry because Kenneth always manages to make it cute, but well, frankly I don’t like Linda lol. I would LOVE to see Kenneth as a villain again! A HOTT villain would be nice! haha… Theater? Well, as long as he still does series as much, then he can do theater productions lol. But that would be a lot of work and time!

Kenneth Ma Speaks About His Career

March 13, 2008 at 12:06 am (interviews)

Among TVB’s promoted artists for 2006, Kenneth Ma Kwok Ming’s name appears on the list. Approaching 32 years old, popularity and fame is within reach.

Kenneth entered the industry at 24 years old. At 30, he signed a management contract with TVB. Many steps were taken slower than most artists. Although Kenneth’s age is a bit older, but his advantage is maturity. “During training class, my classmates were mostly 17-18 years old, fresh out of high school. They were all very good looking, but after 1 year of playing extras, many have left the industry.”

Kenneth is willing to wait. He has played as an extra alongside Dayo Wong Tsi Wah. Kenneth has played corpses many times during shooting. “When I played those scenes until 4 AM in the morning, that was the most tiring.”

Since Kenneth is so honest and direct, to gain greater popularity, he must work a lot harder. Kenneth said his objective is Hui Siu Hung, who is still acting in his fifties. Since Kenneth is only in his thirties, maybe his objective is too…far into the future?

After graduating from University of British Columbia with an engineering degree, Kenneth’s first job was working in a glass manufacturing company for 9 months, in charge of quality surveillance.

“I had to wear a tie to work everyday. I had to wear goggles and inspect the site’s progress. I had to carry the building’s architectural plans and walk 10+ floors to oversee the progress. My first job was very dull and tiring.”

Kenneth is afraid of boredom, but he is a boring person. His father was a Mechanical Engineer and worked at a coal gas company. When Kenneth entered university, he chose to major in Mechanical Engineering because he saw that his father’s job presented a stable income. Kenneth said, “I am very good at solving math problems. I wanted to find a job where I can do computer design in an office. But at my first job, I had to manage a large number of construction workers.”

Kenneth graduated from University of British Columbia in 1998 and returned to Hong Kong to look for work. But at the time, HK was in financial crisis. Although Kenneth sent out 80 inquiry letters looking for a job, he did not hear back from most of them. “Most of the engineering work has moved to mainland China. So it was very hard to find an engineering job in Hong Kong. The large companies were not hiring. I sent inquiry letters to the train authorities, the airport, etc, but I did not even get any interviews.”

Kenneth did get response from TVB. Kenneth’s mother knew that he liked to act, so she signed him up for the training class. Although Kenneth is a shy person, but he will take on a different personality when acting. When he entered TVB, he sacrificed his engineering job with a monthly salary of $10,000+ (HKD). At TVB, his initial earnings were only one-third of his engineering job.

Standing at 6 feet tall, Kenneth said he does not have a girlfriend. “I don’t like to express myself. But I like to act.”

Kenneth played extras for 3 years, often playing corpses in battlefield scenes. When Dayo Wong had to shoot a music video for his theme song “War of the Genders,” Kenneth had to put on a roach suit to play “Siu Keung.” Kenneth said it was quite fun.

The first series that Kenneth had spoken lines was in “Loving You.” Kenneth played the part of a gigolo. Kenneth was very excited and spent a lot of time preparing for the role. In “At the Threshold of an Era,” he played one of Gallen Lo Ka Leung’s posse. In one scene, Kenneth had to report the stock prices and no matter how he tried, he could not remember the dialogue, resulting in 30 NG’s. “I saw that Gallen had many eyebags resulting from several nights of no rest due to continuous filming. I prevented the crew from wrapping up early; I was very anxious.”

S4 Days

After “Triumph In the Skies,” Kenneth was promoted as one of the members of S4 alongside Ron Ng, Bosco Wong, and Sammul Chan. But Kenneth said, “Actually TVB was really intending to promote Ron Ng; I was used to only make up the 4th member. S4 was a good way to promote some new actors. At the time, I was the only one without a management contract, so I had less opportunities.”

When Kenneth was filming “My Master Is Wong Fei Hung,” and “Lost In The Chamber of Love,” Kenneth only had a training contract under TVB. It wasn’t until “Scavenger’s Paradise” that Kenneth signed a management cotnract.

“It wasn’t until this year that my salary has gotten closer to what I was earning at my first job. I try very hard to save money, by taking the train, bus, etc. I only like to play soccer, so I don’t waste a lot of money.”

Although Kenneth is past 30, he is still living with his parents. Kenneth is grateful for the freedom his parents gave him, not forcing him to bring more money home. “Compared to my classmates, I have been very lucky. Many of them are still under a training contract.”

Ever since his early school days, Kenneth has been a big soccer fan and one of his greatest skills is playing soccer. “I didn’t stand out in school, but my gym teacher always remembered me.”

“During lunch time at the cafeteria in high school, there were often many pretty girls gathered together. They were all long-haired and classic beauties. I don’t know how it happened, but I started dating.” Kenneth’s first relationship only lasted 3 months. His ex-girlfriend had to attend college in Toronto, so they separated after a brief romance.

For college, Kenneth attended University of British Columbia and in his mechanical engineering classes, there were very few girls. He did not meet any suitable types and did not date anyone during college. A traditional personality like Kenneth’s, would women find him to be secure or boring? While in Canada during college, Kenneth joined the Chinatown soccer team and played games there.

Will Not Consider Dating Margie Tsang Wah Sin

After entering the entertainment industry, Kenneth’s sole interest is still soccer. “Each week I play about 6 games. I have joined many different teams, such as a team from my training class days, a soccer team made up of TVB production workers, HK Celebrity team etc.”

The TVB Artist Supervisor that came to the interview with Kenneth commented, “Of course Kenneth doesn’t have a girlfriend. Do you expect women to always attend your soccer games and watch you on the bench?”

Kenneth said, “I really want to date. I have wanted to do so for several years.” Earlier, Kenneth was in close contact with Margie Tsang Wah Sin, resulting in rumors of their 9-year-age-difference romance. “Margie and I are good friends that can talk about anything. Sometimes we talk about work, sometimes personal matters, sometimes gossip. We go out for dinner or drinks, it’s not a big deal.”

“Actually I get along quite well with other female actresses. Age differences and gender are not important in friendship. For example, I also get along with Halina Tam Siu Wan and Louisa So Yuk Wah. When I see Louisa at the studio, I will always chat with her.”

Will Kenneth consider dating Margie? “I will not consider it. Since the media has twisted our relationship in such ways, I don’t want the rumors to affect Margie negatively. Right now, our frequency in meeting has become less.”

Kenneth said he is not against dating a woman older than him. The most important thing is that they are compatible. But Kenneth doesn’t like women who are too young, as he doesn’t know how to sugar-coat his words to please them. His ideal girlfriend would be between the ages of 25-30.

Some people say that Kenneth is very wooden. But during our 3 hour interview, Kenneth showed his humorous side.

1. Kenneth was once a member of Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing’s Fan Club. Since Kenneth’s mother is a loyal Leslie fan, both mother and son joined the club together. “Because my mother likes Leslie so much, her English name is ‘Monica.'”

2. Since he was 9 years old, Kenneth has liked Daffy Duck. In his bedroom, Kenneth still has his old toys of Daffy Duck. “I don’t like Mickey Mouse because I think he is very fake, always smiling at everyone. In real life, people are not like that. But Daffy Duck is more real, he likes money and is hot-blooded. If I were to act as Daffy, it would be much more interesting than playing Mickey.”

From cartoon characters, the conversation has turned back to acting again. Kenneth said his favorite series to date is “Scavenger’s Paradise.” Although Kenneth feels that his character in the series was a little boastful, but being boastful is better than being wooden, at least he will leave a lasting impression in the audience’s mind.

COMMENTS: Oh wow. I didn’t know he was good friends w/ both Halina AND Louisa. I would’ve never though of… haha. he played corpses? makes me think of his role in SP! The reference to playing alongside Dayo – does he mean when he played the big cockaroach “Siu Keung”? It’s so funny how “siu keung” became so famous (it’s universally known to mean cockaroach now) and how Kenneth is just starting to find fame!  Since this article was from a few years back, I remember when I read it, I was like OMG his ideal gf is like Bernice’s age lol. Kenneth’s always so humble and speaks like he lacks confidence. Glad he’s able to gain some confidence in himself and still remain humble!

Old Interview Of Michelle & Kenneth (2/1/05)

March 13, 2008 at 12:06 am (interviews, LITCOL, michelle ye)

Lost in the Chamber of Love Makes Wonderful Fate

With Hung Leung now paired w/ Cheung Kwan Sui, Chui Ung Ung is destined to be with someone else, the powerful emperor Tong Duk Chung. Regarding these two characters from LITCOL, the actor and actress were interviewed. Kenneth and Michelle act as a couple on-screen and are good friends off-screen, we wonder if they will be an ideal lover for one another?

LITCOL’s Tong Dak Chung

Harming the Common Good In Turn For Winning a Girl’s Heart

I am Tong Dak Chung! Because I am of age for marriage, I was forced into marriages by the Dowager Empress, but I wanted to find a girl that I truly liked, so I decided to go look for one in the common world. Going there, I used a fake name of Wong Man Bun and ended up meeting the beautiful Chui Ung Ung. I fell head over heels for her, so I tried my best to court her!

I’m an emperor, I could’ve ordered for her to enter the palace, but I felt that it’d be insincere for me to do that, so I decided to court her. I really knew how to use my mind to win the beauty’s heart; I used many methods to court Ung Ung that really meant harming the commonwealth. Using your heart will really get you repayment, in the end, Ung Ung really was touched by my sincerity and accepted me!

Real Life’s Kenneth Ma – Everything Simple

I’m actually very cold towards holidays, for the past Valentine’s Day, I’ve never thought about what I should do or how I should celebrate, adding to that is I haven’t had a date with me for the many years during Valentine’s Day.

I was in a male school during high school, I’ve never even received Valentine’s Day chocolate before during school years. I didn’t feel unhappy, though. Actually, when I saw some schoolmates running to girls after school with a big bunch of flowers, I would think that it’s really funny and that they’re kind of stupid. Valentine’s Day seems so artificial, everything seems so deliberate that there’s no sincerity. You don’t only have to give gifts on Valentine’s Day. In contrast, during normal days, just suddenly giving a present to your loved one, I think, would make her even happier.

I haven’t thought about what kind of presents to give on Valentine’s Day. If the girl really does like me, I will give my whole person to her. I’m actually not young anymore, so I don’t like the little flirting that goes on. Valentine’s Day is best spent quietly with your girlfriend. I think it’s most sweet when two people can go walk around together, buying ingredients then going back home to cook, you can fill your stomach as well as be happy.

Didn’t think about it either this Valentine’s Day, I’ll be home watching some DVDs and playing with my nephew!

An Ideal Lover

When asking the two about their ideal lovers, they kept complimenting each other. Michelle said she likes good looking guys, immediately looking at Kenneth, saying that he’s pretty good. Kenneth then says that Michelle is a nice girl and it’d be an honor to have her as a girlfriend.

Comments: From his interviews w/ Michelle and some other girls, it always seems like Kenneth feels pressured into saying that they are attractive and the such. He’s very gentlemanly!

Kenneth Ma: Most Improved Actor Winner

March 13, 2008 at 12:04 am (interviews)

When Kenneth Ma Kwok Ming was announced the winner of the Most Improved Male Actor Award at TVB’s 39th Anniversary, audiences witnessed Kenneth’s complete shock. “I really didn’t know in advance that I would receive the award. I was busy mentally reviewing my dance routine, so when my name was announced, I was completely taken by surprise!”

Kenneth said that if he had known in advance about the award, he would definitely have worn a suit in honor of receiving his first acting award!

“I do not feel pressure after receiving the award, since I still have not fully led a series yet. I can still make mistakes and be brave in trying out different character roles.” In upcoming series, “Brink of Law,” Kenneth plays an astute police officer.

After receiving the Most Improved Actor Award, Kenneth received congratulations from many people, requesting him to treat for dinner. Did Kenneth also receive a text message from rumored girlfriend, Margie Tsang Wah Sin? “Nope! But at the costume fitting for ‘Curious Detective,’ she congratulated me.”

Regarding the media’s publication on Kenneth and Margie’s rumors, he was grateful that the media has been kind to him. “They did not write about me ‘eating soft rice’ so I was happy already! In the entertainment industry, rumors are inevitable.”

Will Kenneth and Margie advance in their relationship? Kenneth decided to keep a mysterious air and said, “I can not say it is impossible, it’s better not to block off future opportunities!”

Kenneth Self-Ranking on 2006’s Results:

+20 points for hard efforts
+30 points for the support of cast and crew members
+20 points for luck
Total: 70 points

COMMENTS: I was sooo happy when Kenneth won. But it’s really tough after winning this award. I think he’ll have to wait a LONG time before he gets another one… I loved his speech! He was so adorable and so many ppl were cheering for him!
